ACTIVITIES

Snorkeling, Kayaking & Riding Doughnuts

K’Gari is popular for its marine life and safe snorkeling spots. The beautiful clear waters are teeming with vibrant marine life and coral reefs, providing an unforgettable underwater experience. Both beginners and experienced snorkelers will be amazed by the beauty of the underwater world.

Kayaking is a must on K’Gari! Paddling the crystal-clear waters while taking in the island’s breathtaking scenery is an unforgettable experience. You can explore the island’s many rivers and creeks by kayak, and even venture out to see the local dolphins and other marine life.

If riding doughnuts is your thing, then get on and get pulled by a speedboat through the beautiful waters around the island. It’s an exhilarating experience that is sure to get your adrenaline pumping.

Sand Dunes

Apart from exciting water activities, K’Gari is also home to some of the world’s most impressive sand dunes. The dunes are a natural wonder that stretch for miles and are a must-visit for adventure and nature seekers. The island has some great sand boarding dunes, particularly at Waddy Point, Orchid Beach and further afar at the Sandy Cape.  (Always check the latest advice relating to safety and island preservation before boarding on the Dunes.)

The stunning views from the top of the dunes are absolutely breathtaking.

K’Gari truly has something for everyone, and the sand dunes  are just one more reason why this destination is so special.

The Champagne Pools are located along 75 Mile Beach on the eastern
side of the island, between Waddy Point and Indian Head. To get to the
pools:

  •  drive about 2.2km north along the beach from Indian Head.
  • walk a short boardwalk and down several stairs to the pools.

4WDs can park on the beach below or use the parking lot that is
located inland and make their way to the pools from there using the
marked pathways.

Due to the remote location of the Champagne Pools and time
restrictions some tours may not visit this site.

Lake McKenzie / Boorangoora

Located 100 meters above sea level,
Lake McKenzie on Fraser Island is one of the most beautiful and
well-known freshwater lakes in Australia. The lake is a “perched lake”
meaning it exists well above the water table and is thus comprised of
pure rainwater only.

This unique environment, along with the high levels of acidity in the
lake, makes the water unsuitable for nearly all forms of plant and fish
life. Without natural waste from plant and animal life, the lake is
extremely pure. Strangely enough, the lake is too pure to sustain
natural life that would otherwise inhabit its waters. Along with the
clean water, the sand around Lake McKenzie is pure silica, giving the
beach a shimmering white color. The famous heart-shaped-tree adds to the
already pretty landscape.

In a nutshell, K’Gari Fraser Island is a unique destination that offers a wide range of thrilling activities. Whether you prefer snorkeling, riding doughnuts, kayaking or taking in the natural wonder of the dunes, crystal waters and wondrous sea life, you are sure to find something that will make your visit to this stunning island unforgettable.

An added bonus is to stay at the best caravan park in Hervey Bay, the Windmill.
